Modiolastrum Lateritium also known as False Mallow. Originating from South America this hardy, deciduous perennial will put on a spectacular show if given the right conditions. Plant in a site which benefits from full sun and any aspect other than north-facing. Unfussy on soil type or conditions it will grow to a height of 30cm with a spread of up to 1.5m. This trailing, spreading habit makes it excellent as ground cover as well as being ideal for training up a wall. Leaves, held from March to November, are mid-green and resemble small, hairy fig leaves. Flowers are peach coloured with a deep pink halo surrounding a golden yellow centre and appear in May to July. Propagate by basal cuttings and ensure that soil is not permanently wet in winter if you intend to leave plant in situ.
