A Japanese native with arching stems, Kirengeshoma palmata 'Black Style' is perfectly adapted to a woodland setting. In your chosen shady spot, the bright yellow, bell-shaped, waxy-looking blooms can shine forth from August to October adding illumination and intrigue. Alongside these wonderous blooms, upright clumps of palmately lobed, maple-like leaves are held on strong, almost black, stalks. The foliage offers both decoration and weed-suppressing groundcover, commencing in April and lasting to November. The plant's name is derived from the Japanese words, ki renge shoma. 'Ki' means 'yellow' and the 'renge shoma' refers to the false anemone (a perennial that it resembles). Plant Kirengeshoma palmata 'Black Style' alongside other woodland plants such as hosta, hellebores and euphorbia to create a densely planted shady border for full impact.Krengeshoma palmata prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in part shade - but will also grow and flower in full sun.
